Fearless also known in Chinese as Hua Yuanjia. This is a 2006 film starred by Jet Li and directed by Ronny yu. It is loosely based on the life of a legendary Chinese martial artist, Huo Yuanjia, who challenged foreign fighters in highly publicized events, restoring the nationalism and pride to China at a time when Western Imperialism and Japanese manipulation were eroding the country. In an interview, Jet Li stated that this film is his last wushu martial arts epic, a point also made in the movie's television promotions and other publicity. Fearless was released last June 23, 2006 in the UK and September 22, 2006 in US.

Jet Li's Fearless is already a box office hit in Asia which is directed by Ronny Yu. This is also Jet Li's final martial arts masterpiece film that is capping a tremendous body of work in that genre.

This movie reunites the actor and martial arts superstar with the producer Bill Kong and action choreographer Yuen Wo Ping as he portrays martial arts legend Huo Yuanjia, who became the most popular fighter all over China in 20th Century. Huo faced incredible personal tragedy but ultimately fought his way out of darkness and into history, forever defining the true spirit of martial arts. His self- discovery, and the choices he made, inspired his nation.

The son of a great fighter who do not wish for his child to follow his achievements, the bullied Huo Yuanjia resolves to teach himself how to fight. Years of training enables him to ace every match in his home region of Tianjin. But as his fame as a martial arts master improves, so does his pride. After an ill-advised fight leads to another master's death, members of Huo's family are killed just for revenge. Grieving and ashamed, Huo wanders the country in shock. Near death, he is rescued by women from an idyllic village, and is offered simple kindness and generosity that help him heal and regain his equilibrium over a period of several years. Huo then realizes that the future of martial arts lies in sportsmanship and not brutality, and he rejoins society to apply what he has learned.

Returning to his homeland, Huo takes steps to come to terms with his past and restore his family's name. His evolving, graceful Mizong Fist method of fighting brings Huo renewed success, and he forms the progressive Jingwu Sports Federation. Taking note, duplicitous members of the Foreign Chamber of Commerce engineer a shanghai tournament pitting Huo against four fighters, each representing the major foreign powers in China. Huo commits to the bout and faces off against, respectively, a British boxer, a Spanish swordsman, a Belgian soldier, and a Japanese martial artist. What happened that day in 1910 has never been forgotten in China.

Terminally ill serial killer Jigsaw continues ensnaring sad sacks in lethal games, this time from his deathbed, in Saw III, though to its credit, director Darren Lynn Bousman's second contribution to the Halloween-timed franchise has slightly more kick than his prior effort. Without any differentiation in color palette, editorial structure, tone, or quantity of blood from its predecessors, this latest gory go-round picks up where last year's film ended, following Jigsaw and apprentice Amanda as they kidnap a doctor and force her to keep Jigsaw alive—via an explosive collar that'll detonate if the fiend's heart-rate falls—just long enough to watch another captive, Jeff, perform a succession of horrific tests. As before, salvation is achievable through bodily sacrifice, yet series creators James Wan and Leigh Whannell bring a bit more heft to their decaying conceit by having Jeff's ordeal be crafted by Jigsaw not only as a lesson in the perils of vengeance, but also in the necessity of letting go of past misfortunes, the tragedy in question being the death of Jeff's young son. Faced with the choice of saving those responsible for his kid's demise (as well as the culprit's light punishment) by suffering pain, or being condemned by Jigsaw to a worse, unspecified fate, Jeff is compelled to confront both his anger and his grief, a more nuanced predicament that, during a sequence in which Jeff is aske to save a judge from drowning in slaughtered pig goo by burning the physical reminders of his son's life (photographs, stuffed animals, etc.), even flirts with emotional gravity. In general, however, Saw III simply peddles gruesomeness of a disgusting rather than frightening order, its intricate deathtrap set pieces only barely complemented by the tense rapport between Jigsaw and Amanda, and eventually impaired by the filmmakers' desire, through furious flashbacks, to link all three Saw movies together into a grand Jigsaw-masterminded plot that's elaborate to the point of absurdity.

Cris Johnson has the ability to see 2 minutes into his own future. He works a low-level magic act in Las Vegas with this secret ability and also makes money gambling. However, an FBI Agent sees his uncanny ability to foresee the immediate future and tries to get him to foil a terrorist plot.

The basic plot outline above isn't wholly exciting and can initially smell of outdated Cold War plot lines. And seeing that it is in the hands of Hollywood in the form of big budget action vehicle it will definitely turn many viewers off. The recent highly contrived sci-fi action movie "Deja Vu" is also another potential unfair strike against this movie. But, be clear of doubt, this film is actually good and it succeeds in being intriguing and not cheesy at the same time - completely unlike the "Deja Vu." "Next" leaves a lot to the audience's imagination and certain things are there just for you to accept on the basis that this is a movie - no lengthy pseudo-science speeches here. The movie also makes very good use of computer effects - there aren't many and the few that there are, aren't awful looking like director Lee Tamahori's last feature "XXX: The State of the Union" Johnson's clairvoyance is shown in a clever way and the story takes several nice turns. There is the stock Hollywood romantic angle here, but cheesiness is mercifully spared as it is not over done, but actually played out humorously in certain scenes.

Then the kicker is the ending, which I dare not give away, and it is a real breath of fresh air. It leaves you a lot to think about and that ultimately ends this film with, not a bang which many people might expect from a big-budget action-fest. No, definitely not a bang, but a hum. That hum will stay with you for a while after you finish watching as you think about what happened and what may still happen.

About the Movie

Scary Movie 4 is a cobbled together parody of four generally accessible movies. These are Saw, War of the Worlds, The Grudge, and The Village. Along the way, there are digs at other movies like Fahrenheit 9/11 and Brokeback Mountain. The way in which these storylines are interwoven makes no sense, but it doesn't have to. The production team features David Zucker and Jim Abrahams, two of the three members of ZAZ(Zucker/Abrahams/Zucker), the trio responsible for Airplane! and The Naked Gun, and their goal is to find a familiar looking backdrop for a clothesline of spoofs and jokes. This "saturation style" of comedy doesn't work as well as it has in the past because the ratio of failed jokes to successful ones is too high. It's not exactly work to sit through Scary Movie 4, but there are times when it comes close.

Synopsis

Sin City author Frank Miller's sweeping take on the historic Battle of Thermopylae comes to the screen courtesy of Dawn of the Dead director Zack Snyder. Gerard Butler stars as Spartan King Leonidas and Lena Headey plays Queen Gorgo. The massive army of the Persian Empire is sweeping across the globe, crushing every force that dares stand in its path. When a Persian envoy arrives in Sparta offering King Leonidas power over all of Greece if he will only bow to the will of the all powerful Xerxes, the strong-willed leader assembles a small army comprised of his empire's best fighters and marches off to battle. Though they have virtually no hope of defeating Xerxes' intimidating battalion, Leonidas' men soldier on, intent on letting it be known they will bow to no man but their king. Meanwhile, back in Sparta, the loyal Queen Gorgo attempts to convince both the skeptical council and the devious Theron to send more troops despite the fact that many view Leonidas' unsantioned war march as a serious transgression. As Xerxes' fearsome "immortals" draw near, a few noble Greeks vow to assist the Spartans on the battlefield.
